FAQ

About booking:

Balam focuses on his specialty and will take inquires for GEOMETRIC, ORNAMENTAL,  BLACKWORK, dotwork, and illustrative tattoo projects first. â€‹

If you have an idea and are open to Balam creating it in his style, drop all your info in the form.

If you are looking for a different style, and like Balam for your tattoo idea, you can submit your request and Balam will determine if it is a project he would like to take on.

Balam does NOT do copies of other tattoos. We will review each request and respond within 48 hours, however not every request will be taken on at this time. Thank you.

How much do tattoos cost?

Balam charges by the hour or by Full Day (11:30-7pm). Actual price may vary. When you submit your booking request form include your budget. Balam reviews every request to provide you an approximate quote of time/price before you book your appointment. Tattoos requiring multiple sessions will often be discussed at a consult. â€‹

How do I book a tattoo?

Please use the booking request form. Include as much detailed information as you can and include reference images. We will reply by email with one of the following:

 1. accepting your project with a quote of hours/price and direct you to schedule your tattoo, 2. request you book a consult, 3. ask for more information, 4. let you know Balam will not be taking on your project at this time.

What is a tattoo consult?

A consult is a complementary 30 minute in-person or online video chat with Balam to understand more fully your project. He may take pictures of where you are to be tattooed, draw a map on your skin of where the design will be, look at reference photos, discuss number of sessions and price estimate. When you both feel comfortable with the design plan the consult is complete and you can book your session and place your deposit.

What is the tattoo deposit?

When you are booking your tattoo appointment you will be asked to place a $100-$250 deposit to hold you appointment. This will be taken by debit or credit card or cash in-person at the studio. $100 for appointments 5hrs and under. $250 for 6 hours or longer. See Deposit Policy below.

What is the Deposit Policy?

The deposit comes off the total cost of your tattoo. If your tattoo requires multiple sessions, it will come off the cost of the last session.

All deposits are non-refundable. If you have to reschedule, you must do so 3 days before the day of your appointment; otherwise, you will lose your deposit and must leave a new deposit to book a new appointment.

You may reschedule your appointment two times for free. After that, I charge an additional $50 Rescheduling fee.

Deposits are not transferable to other people.

Deposits are only good for the design that was discussed. If you change your mind before your appointment, you must leave a new deposit for the different design.

If you are running late for your appointment, please let me know as soon as possible. Arriving more than 20 minutes late to your appointment will result in that time being added to the cost of your tattoo at my hourly rate.

The price estimate you were given was not an exact price quote. The price could be more or less depending on the final size, detail, and location of the tattoo.

When do I get to see my tattoo design?

Balam does not send pictures of drawings before the appointment unless he has any questions about the design. You will be able to see your design the day of the tattoo appointment. Balam plans to have 15-20 minutes before the tattoo for any design adjustments. If you require more substantial design changes than can be completed in that time he may require a $50-$100 re-designing fee and may need to reschedule your appointment for another day. Please make sure you provide sufficient details in the booking request form or at the consult to prevent this and be open to artistic interpretation of your ideas and how they translate to a tattoo.

How should I prepare for a tattoo session?

Get a good night sleep, stay well hydrated, eat a good breakfast. Wear comfortable clothing that gives easy access to the area being tattooed. Bring layers incase you get cold.

Do Not: consume alcoholic beverages or take any non-prescribed drugs or blood thinners 24 hours before your appointment, you will bleed more, and I will have to work harder (aka hurt you more).

What should I expect at the tattoo session?

When you arrive check in at the reception desk. They will ask to see your valid government photo ID and have you sign a form. Balam will come and show you the design. The stencil will be placed on your skin and need sometime to dry before the tattoo will begin. During longer or full day sessions expect a meal break. You can bring food, snack, and drinks for your session. If you need a break just ask.

What payments do you take?

Balam accepts cash, card with a 4% charge, and shop gift certificates.

Do I tip for my tattoo?

I personally tip anyone who is doing me a service, especially if it requires special skills and definitely if they do a great job. That being said, tips are appreciated but not required.

What happens when we are done with the tattoo?

When we are completed with the tattoo we will let it rest for a time, then we may take photos, then a film will be applied to the tattoo and aftercare instructions given. Then we take payment and you are done!

What is the healing process like? How do I take care of my tattoo?

See Aftercare instructions.

What if I need a touch up?

95% of the time touch ups are not required except for hands and feet. Hands and feet often require at least one touch up. The first touch up on any tattoo is free, after that I may charge a small fee. I rarely ever need to do touch ups but I'm happy to do them because I always want your tattoo to look amazing!
